For decades black beer has been dominated by the Guinness leviathon however with the craft beer boom reaching it's peak the amount of craft stouts and craft porters is reaching a staggering number. Even the more traditional brews are benefiting from CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) and here at The Pip Stop we are loving every full bodied mouthful.

Check out our incredible range of stouts and porters from the likes of Samuel Smiths Tadcaster Brewery, through to the much beloved Beavertown, and local boys Durham Brewery.

Beer fact: Porters started life as a blend of three different styles: an old ale (stale or soured), a new ale (brown or pale ale) and a weak ale (mild ale), which was then blended and aged for several months, sometimes over a year. Stouts are a descendent of the porter. They were the upgraded porters, and came from double porter or stout porter being used as new labelling terms. They were typically the strongest porters, around 7-8% ABV
